Energy conservation in residential homes refers to the efforts made to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainability within a household. This involves adopting practices, technologies, and behaviors that aim to minimize energy waste and lower environmental impact while maintaining a comfortable living space.
Energy-Efficient Appliances: Choose appliances with high Energy Star ratings to ensure they operate more efficiently and use less energy.
Proper Insulation: Insulating attics, walls, subfloors, windows, and doors to minimize heat loss during colder months and heat gain in the warmer months helps reduce the need for excessive heating and cooling.
Smart Thermostats: Use programmable thermostats to regulate heating and cooling systems, optimizing energy use based on the household's schedule.
LED Lighting: Replacing traditional incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs to save electricity.
Sealing Leaks: Identifying and sealing any drafts or leaks in windows, doors, and other openings throughout the home helps to prevent the escape of conditioned air.
HVAC System: Regularly servicing and maintaining your HVAC system to ensure it operates efficiently. This includes cleaning or replacing filters, checking for leaks, optimizing performance, and insulating ductwork to prevent energy loss.
Behavioral Changes: Adopting energy-conscious habits such as turning off lights and electronics when not in use, using natural light during the day, and washing clothes in cold water can help reduce energy consumption.
Our Dominion Home Energy Evaluation is a quick, visual walkthrough of your home, designed to identify obvious opportunities for energy savings. During this assessment, we inspect insulation, HVAC and ductwork, water heater and water lines, lighting, appliances, and the building envelope. You will receive a clear, easy-to-understand report highlighting immediate improvement opportunities and measures eligible for Dominion rebates. This evaluation is perfect for customers who want a fast, no-hassle assessment of their home’s energy efficiency.
Customer eligibility: This program is available only to active Dominion Energy customers who have not previously participated in the Dominion Home Energy Evaluation program or other similar programs they offer.
Upgrade option: If you want a deeper understanding of your home’s performance, our technician can upgrade your visit to a Standard or Advanced Energy Audit while on-site. This allows for more detailed testing and recommendations during the same visit.
Our Standard Energy Audit goes beyond a visual inspection to uncover hidden energy inefficiencies in your home. In addition to inspecting insulation, HVAC and ductwork, lighting, appliances, and the building envelope, we perform whole-home air leakage testing. You will receive a comprehensive report with detailed findings, tailored solutions, and recommendations to improve comfort, efficiency, and energy savings. This audit is ideal for homeowners who want a more thorough assessment and may uncover additional rebate or cost-saving opportunities beyond the Dominion evaluation.
Our Advanced Energy Audit includes everything in the Standard Energy Audit, plus additional diagnostic testing to reveal issues that may not be visible during a typical inspection. This includes duct system testing for leaks, gas-fired appliance safety testing, crawlspace inspections, and thermal imaging to detect hidden problems. A detailed, prioritized report is provided with actionable recommendations to maximize your home’s energy efficiency, comfort, and long-term savings. This audit is perfect for homeowners seeking the most comprehensive evaluation available.
Based on the results from you energy audit, we can recommend solutions for you mitigate the issues on your own. Or, if you choose, we can correct the issues for you. Either way, after your energy audit we will formulate a report of our findings and the recommended solutions for mitigation. Once formulated, we will send you a copy of the detailed report to the provided email address.
